Hey there! NYNE here, thank you so much for subscribing!
I wanted to take a few moments and introduce myself and my project, the OSCIANSTAR CREATIVE MAGAZINE.
So about me? Well, this is awkward already lol. I’m just a blerd and I like to write as a form of escape from the grind of my 9-5. I work in the sciences in a senior management / director level position so as you can imagine I’ve dealt with a ton of stress and anxiety related to overwork (I’m 31 now). My imagination and the written form are my happy place and now I just wanna share this place with everyone.
Spent most of my childhood watching anime, reading manga and light novels. Some of my faves are The Slayers (my absolute favorite piece of fiction of all time and nothing will change this haha!), Overlord, Tensura, Naruto, and Magi to name a few (trust, there are many!). These are some of my weeb inspirations.
I also love some traditional fantasy from folks like Stephen King, N.K. Jemisin, T. Kingfisher and of course fairy tales from the likes of The Grimm Brothers, Terry Berger, and many others.
So what is an “otaku fairy tale” and what is a “light novel” as far as this project is concerned? We can start with the easy one - a light novel is just a Japanese cultural term for novels published with genre conventions based on weeb, webnovel, or anime culture (isekai for example). If you’re familiar with anime, many of them are based on books which are called light novels.
Then what about an “otaku fairy tale”? Well an otaku in the western world just means an anime nerd. But an “otaku fairy tale”? That’s a totally made up term from me lol! I love short stories; I have a deep love for classic fairy tales. So much so that I prefer to write with the strong presence of a narrator. So this aspect of the project is just merging two things I love. The idea of writing a fairy tale around isekai or other otaku cultural tropes I grew up with as a black anime nerd excites me.
This project will consist of:
Original fairy tales and short stories called NYNE Tales. They’ll be short reads tackling some thematic issue on my mind at the time. These I call otaku fairy tales since I wanna incorporate certain concepts from the stories and genre’s I’ve loved all my life as well as my current struggles with stress and anxiety.
Eventually I want to also publish original English light novels serialized here on this site. Some may be adapted versions of the fairy tales and short stories.
Thanks and please enjoy the ride!
Cheers!
